The World’s Most Popular Military Shelter System

The Alaska Small Shelter System® from Alaska Defense™ (Alaska), is combat tested and proven to be the world’s most widely used military shelter system in history. More than 20,000 Alaska Small Shelters have been deployed worldwide since 1999. This fully engineered military tent is the system of choice for many U.S. Forces and foreign militaries operating around the world.

The highly adaptable shelter system can be configured and used to fulfill billeting requirements for NCO Housing, Officer Housing and Commander Housing, along with various other shelter functions. More than 10,000 Alaska Small Shelters were fielded in Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF).

The Alaska Small Shelter System® is the only military shelter system successfully tested to meet all of the requirements in the U.S. Air Force’s 1999 Operational Requirements Document (ORD). It is the official U.S. Air Force Small Shelter System and established the billeting shelter standard for all USAF BEAR packages.

Having proved its durability and usefulness in many military theaters, the Alaska Small Shelter System® is the shelter of choice for both the U.S. Special Operations Command’s Joint Bare Base Program and by the U.S. Army’s LOGCAP IV prime vendors in Afghanistan.

The Only Proven Small Shelter System to Reduce Energy Consumption By 50%!

The Alaska Small Shelter System® sets itself apart with its energy efficiency. When configured end-to-end and equipped with Alaska EnerLayer® (a supplemental insulation system) and the Alaska Solar Fly® (a proprietary solar shade material), and using (1) 5-ton ECU, it not only meets but exceeds the U.S. Air Force’s Energy Efficiency “objective” requirements.

Results? When subjected to temperatures as high as 126°F and a solar load of 1,120 W/m2, the energy-efficient Alaska Small Shelter System® was able to reduce power consumption by a whopping 50% and maintain a temperature differential of 46°F, as tested by the Climate Testing Facility at White Sands Missile Range (per the latest revision of MIL-STD-810 and guidance from MIL-HDBK-310).

A Time-Honored Legacy: 25 Years Young and Still Strong

The age of the Alaska Small Shelter System® is a testament to its robustness and adaptability. This shelter system has evolved over the years, showcasing how it aligns with the U.S. Air Force’s modern needs while maintaining its traditional and unmatched reliability.

Benefits of Our Small Shelter Systems

The Alaska Small Shelter provides many benefits to the warfighter:

  • Rapid Deployment – capable of being completely setup in under 20 minutes.
  • Portability – 50% less cubic volume than one-piece frame shelters.
  • Unmatched Durability – tested to withstand:
    • 80 MPH sustained winds (100 MPH gusts)
    • 20 lbs. per sq. ft. (PSF) snow load
    • 4” of rain/hour with 40 MPH winds
    • 100 setup/strike cycles with no major damage
  • 50 Hz and 60 Hz versions available

The Alaska Small Shelter Systems® can be equipped with Alaska ECU (environmental control units) to provide a comfortable interior temperature. We offer a wide range of ECU products. Reduce power consumption for heating and cooling by equipping Alaska Small Shelter Systems® with our energy saving products. Less fuel required equals fewer convoys on the battlefield which results in fewer lives being put at risk.
